"Happy day, 'Merca"

We spent another lovely Independence Day with our friends in Carlsbad. Picnic, fireworks and rolling green hills--God bless America, indeed! As for the post title, Dillon sang "Happy Birthday" to America this past July 4th, but she doesn't quite know all the words yet...

(If you'd like to see how much Dillon has grown since the last Fourth of July, click here. Note she is wearing the exact same pair of leg warmers.)

Yay family.

Oopsies.

One of the few clear fireworks shots I took.

So I ended up making a collage of all the shots together.

Life is a Jungle (Gym)

A little while ago we took Dillon to a kiddie play palace with a gym, bounce houses, swings, and play structures. It gave us mini heart attacks to let her go in the bounce house (aka "death trap"), but she seemed to have a good time even with her helicopter parents!

Building Blocks While Wearing a Tutu...Why Not?

Aunt Ellen and Grandma F both gave Dillon building blocks. She has lots of fun building tall towers--and knocking them down too.

Yup, I'm wearing a tutu!

This is a skyscraper.

Earthquake!!

Piano Prodigy

I've had these two audio files of Dillon tinkering on the piano for...oh about a year. I actually played a little trick on a co-worker because we had often discussed renowned pianist Pierre Boulez, known for his rather inharmonious compositions. I played one of Dillon's "compositions" and my co-worker proclaimed "That is the best Pierre Boulez I've ever heard!" When I told him it was actually a nine-month old, he said she was definitely a prodigy. Okay, maybe you had to be there...

Happy Father's Day!

For Mother's Day, Dillon made a sweet little thumbprint necklace in daycare. "What am I getting for Father's Day?" Craig wanted to know. The answer was: a dinosaur wheat grass planter than Dillon painted herself! I also somehow managed to get everyone in the house to participate in a triptych card.

"Lellow" is my favorite color!

See how quickly the wheat grass grows?

Happy Father's Day!

Dillon's Faux Birthday!

As some of you may be aware, in our house we have real birthdays and we have faux birthdays. When I was pregnant, for some reason we nicknamed Dillon "Donut." So what better day for her faux birthday than on National Donut Day? We had quite a day, which naturally started off with some pretty fancy donuts...the park...the harbor...Liberty Station...mashed potato face...

All sorts of beautiful goodies, including cotton candy, creme brulee, and maple bacon.

Why, yes, that is donut icing crusted onto my lip.

More pictures? REALLY?

Mashed potato face!

That Was Then / This Is Now (V)

Sometimes nothing puts you to sleep faster than a nice long car ride. Dillon has sized up from her infant carrier to a toddler seat, but both seem equally cozy!
