This Is 40: Craig Version (Part 1)

We all knew this day would come...we're turning 40 (cue sinister music). Craig kindly took the plunge first in January. We went with a tennis theme so while he was off playing with some friends, Dillon and I made some cupcakes and surprised him at the courts. Dillon also tested out her kid-sized racket.

Dillon helped decorate.

Gotta make sure it tastes good.

Volley.

Nice backhand.

Controlling the ball.

Dillon's First Haircut

Well we managed to hold out for three years, but finally felt Dillon was due for a haircut. We didn't cut too much, but the hairdresser did a great job of giving her curls some shape. Also, they had donuts.

Her first professional shampoo.

Mid-cut.

The blowout.

And...voila!

Even a Princess Needs to Work

Dillon has some chores--cleaning up her toys, putting her clothes in the hamper--that she is required to do and some chores--vacuuming (really!) and feeding the dog--that are extras we'll pay her to do. But just because you're feeding the dog doesn't mean you can't do it in style.

Dillon in a Box

While I wouldn't say Dillon loves boxes more than the toys that came in them, a big giant box is still cause for joy.

Where's Dillon?

There she is!

Box hiding makes a kid thirsty.

Hi everyone! Special delivery.

Sandy Beach Times

Dillon loves the beach--sand, water, sunshine. It's the recipe for a perfect day. Here she is making sand castles and taking a rest in a sandy trough.

San Elijo Lagoon

After having such a nice time the last time we went, we returned to San Elijo Lagoon. Dillon became very fond of Franklin the Turtle, who I'm guessing will outlive us all. I always love taking little walks with Dillon on one of San Diego's nature trails.

This kid loves benches.

Twirling and whirling.

Pigtails!

Running...another favorite activity.

Happy kiddo.

Dillon Museum of Fine Art (VIII)

Dillon has been painting a lot these days. Most of it ends up on her, but a few strokes make it onto paper. I call this her "Black Flamingo Period."

Black Flamingo #1

Black Flamingo #2

Dillon painted this at preschool then mailed it to me. "Dillon Girl and Mommy."

A pink flamingo wall hanging made with Nanny Susan.

This one is called "Not a Rainbow."
