Adventures in Daycare: Now in Dolby Surround Sound

There have been some ups and downs with daycare lately, but let's focus on the ups!

Set your piggies free!

Dillon and Jackson reflect on things.

Art time!

Dillon never met a rock she didn't want to photograph.

Painting on: paper, hands, shells.

Practicing zipper skills.

Museum of Making Music

This museum didn't actually sound like that much fun, but as it turns out, it was! Fun for the kids who got to dance, and fun for the adults who all pretended for a brief moment we were in a band as we jammed on guitars, banjos and drums.

Mixing.

Jamming.

Hanging (with Maya and Jaxon).

Learning to Swim

Dillon took several rounds of swim lessons over the summer. Although far from actually knowing how to swim, she does have some basic moves down.

Whipped Cream Party

If Dillon were to recount the best day of her short life, undoubtedly it would be the day her daycare had a whipped cream party (proceeds went to cancer research). Dillon had the time of her life getting doused with whipped cream--and also eating a goodly portion of it.

Interesting scalp treatment.

Daddy gets creamed.

Mommy just gets a kiss.

Arming herself with a weapon.

Sticky, sticky joy.

Someone can't sit still for the group photo.

Aunt Julie! Aunt Julie! (III)

We'll round out Julie's visit with a trip to Julian for apples and gold mining. It was close to the campground and the apples made a nice cake.

Alek and Dillon enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Nothing more American than this.

Aunt Julie bought Dillon her headphone shirt!

Pretty excited about the gemstones she found.

I love Dillon's super casual pose and Alek putting his brother in a headlock.

Girls.

Aunt Julie! Aunt Julie! (II)

While Julie was visiting, we went on a weekend camping trip to the Cuyamaca Paso Picacho campground. I think the child/adult ratio was 50/50, which meant the little ones could have mutinied at any moment. It was the first time camping for me and for Dillon. Julie is clearly a pro at assembling a tent. Dillon and I loved it. Julie probably wished for a little more quiet.

Camp snacks.

Teaching Dillon to pitch a tent.

Teaching Dillon to chill.

Toothpaste LOOKS like sunscreen.

Remnants of a wildfire.

Ghost stories around the campfire.

Aunt Julie! Aunt Julie! (I)

During her travels across the country, Aunt Julie spent a few days with us in San Diego. Dillon is always thrilled to see her and often describes her as "my favorite grown up." They bonded over music videos and thunder.

Making ice cream. Johnny Cash shirt from Aunt Julie.

Dillon's inner velociraptor appears when the ice cream comes out.

Trying on Dillon's assortment of crowns.

Bundled up during the thunder.
