Sewing: Bucket Hat

I really love these Oliver & S sewing patterns. A few months ago I made Dillon a bucket hat with denim on the outside and red/white/blue stripes on the inside. Some of the stitching is a little wonky, but I don't think Dillon minds.

Road Trip to Phoenix (II)

Every morning started with Dillon's favorite app, Monkey Lunchbox:

This monkey wants four mangos.
She also ate a lot of "hallacallos":

Hallacallos!
We went to the Butterfly Wonderland where we frolicked with all sorts of Lepidoptera. Dillon also watched her first 3-D film.

Nice specs!
We saw lots of butterflies.
I love sitting on benches!

While Dillon napped one day I took a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's home, Taliesin West.

FLW FTW.

We also went to the Phoenix Zoo where it was hot, but uncrowded. Dillon had so much fun in the toddler splash area.

The one-arm carry.

Doing the "flamingo."

That is a big frog!

That is a bigger elephant!

I hope mommy brought dry clothes.

And finally we drive home, but not before stopping at Cracker Barrel.

Taking a load off.

These brain teasers are tough for a two year old.

Zonked.

Goin back to Cali, to Cali, to Cali.

Road Trip to Phoenix (I)

Last month we decided to really test Dillon's limits of confinement and drive to Phoenix for a little vacation. I know what you're thinking: Phoenix in September? Six hours in a car with a two-year-old? Despite these hurdles we actually had a really great trip, especially once I invented the "car seat canopy" to help Dillon sleep.

First our pre-trip breakfast of waffles, almond milk and coconut water.

I love waffles. No, really, I love them.

We stayed at the Hyatt at Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale:

Michelle has downloaded another collage app!

We had a lot of fun at the pool:

Ready to see and be seen!

This playing stuff is tough work!

Dillon is more interested in the sand than the photo.

We also had an awesome time at the Phoenix Children's Museum:

Wall o' CDs.

Only the most awesome kids play structure in the world.

Dillon and daddy go through the trike wash.

Basically she was a blur the whole day.

Quiet time playing with magnets, blocks and dinosaurs. (Craig is pooped.)

Mommy and D.
Finally, a short video of Dillon at the sand table in the museum:

I lied. Here are some pictures from the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. Dillon had so much fun dancing with the crows and talking to another little girl wearing princess pyjamas and a tiara.

Giddy'up carousel!

An evening stroll.

Dance with me, birdies!

San Diego Natural History Museum

Over the summer I found myself with a random day off and decided to take Dillon to the Natural History Museum. They just happened to have a great exhibit on dinosaurs and I couldn't resist letting Dillon take one home.

Camping out at the caeveman play area.

Enjoying a ride on the dino egg merry-go-round.

I guess you can touch the exhibits??

Drawing chalk dinosaurs. This one looks angry.

Dillon's new buddy, Growly.
